- The Seattle Post-Intelligencer in an article entitled, "Energy-saving lights now an eco-hazard," reports that, "Broken fluorescent lights make up 1 percent of the country's mercury contamination. Discarded lights also contribute to the contamination caused by garbage incinerators, the second largest sources of mercury pollution."
