Murray State University contracts with PCS UtiliData for AdaptiVoltâ„¢ to achieve campus wide energy efficiency
June 10, 2010
Murray, KY – Murray State University (MSU) awarded a contract to PCS UtiliData to deploy AdaptiVolt™, a Smart Grid technology, to save energy by increasing the efficiency of its campus wide electric distribution network. When the AdaptiVolt™ voltage optimization system is fully deployed, MSU expects to reduce its peak demand by 4.0% and to save 1,300,000 kWh each year. According to PCS UtiliData this is enough energy to power 130 average American homes every year.
The AdaptiVolt™ Volt/Var Optimization system to be deployed gives MSU the power to monitor and automatically adjust voltage levels throughout their distribution system, thereby conserving energy and reducing power losses. “Realizing the full potential of Smart Grid technology requires greater efficiency and resource control for large end-use customer, including universities like MSU,” said Thomas Wilson, President of PCS UtiliData. According to Wilson, the “solutions that provide more control and increase efficiency are critical to the vision of the Smart Grid.”
