Our History
Programmable Control Services Inc. was founded in 1983 and full time operations were originally out of Palatine, Illinois. In 1987, the company was incorporated as a Washington State corporation and moved to Spokane. From the outset, Programmable Control Services (PCS) provided a broad range of integration services to various industry sectors that required programmable control infrastructure. In 1995, operations focused essentially on the electric utility business and began serving a wide range of satisfied customers, with which PCS has maintained solid ties throughout the years. PCS moved to its current facilities on Market Street in Spokane, in 1997. This allowed the consolidation of its panel assembly shop and engineering offices.
As the new millennium began, PCS embarked on an extensive R&D effort aimed at developing Automated Energy Management Systems for the electric distribution utilities market. Due to its stalwart market presence and leadership as a system integrator, the company maintained the high standards that founded the business nearly two decades ago and continues to serve the electric utilities market in the US and Canada. In 2001, PCS changed its name to PCS UtiliData to more accurately reflect its focus on the electric utility industry. That same year, PCS UtiliData was awarded the CSIA’s first annual ‘Remember Me’ Memorial Award for leadership in the control system integrator industry.
In 2002, the R&D program undertaken a few years prior paid off. This product development thrust led to the launch by PCS UtiliData of a unique product aimed at the electricity distribution sector. This product, AdaptiVolt™, offers utilities the ability to dynamically adjust the voltage at the electrical substation to achieve the desired energy consumption target while staying within regulatory compliance and yielding significant energy savings.
In 2009, PCS UtiliData continues to serve utility and industrial customers across the nation with the excellence and expertise that our clients have become accustomed to.
